FINALISTS of EAR-ly 2016 competition selected!
NORDEM, the Nordic Early Music Federation, will in 2016 present the 4th edition of its EAR-ly competition, hosted by BRQ Vantaa Festival, Finland. The overall aim of EAR-ly, held every two years in a Nordic or Baltic country, is to encourage the formation of new early music ensembles (and the development of soloists) and to stimulate an interest in early music among students throughout the Nordic-Baltic region. Early music primarily encompasses the baroque, renaissance and medieval repertoires.

Today the jury of the organizing committee has the pleasure of announcing the names of the participants selected for the final round. Because the jury decided not to recommend any group in the ensemble category, the number of soloists in the final round of the 4th edition edition of EAR-ly was increased from three to six.
The young musicians selected, representing both the Nordic and the Baltic countries are, in alphabetical order, Petri Arvo, renaissance & baroque recorders (Finland), Clara Guldberg Ravn, recorder (Denmark), Juho Myllylä, recorders (Finland), Vera Plosila, traverso (Finland), Aija Veismane, soprano (Latvia) and Kristine West, recorder (Sweden).
In the final round, to be held in Vantaa, Finland on 5–6 August, each participant will perform a 45-minute programme during an open concert in the St. Lawrence Chapel, as part of the BRQ festival. An international jury, under the chairmanship of Žak Ozmo, will select one overall winner, who will be invited to give three concerts in NORDEM´s member festivals during the season 2017/18. The audience of the BRQ Vantaa Festival will also be able to vote for their own favourite, who will be invited to perform at the 2017 BRQ Vantaa festival.
